I’m excited to join the Apex team this year to support students with their learning potential.  I have experience teaching in the elementary classroom, prior to switching gears to start my family ten years ago.  My focus then shifted to working with students one-on-one in a tutoring environment where I have built my own business and schedule that fits my lifestyle.

 

I graduated university with a Bachelor of Education degree specializing in Elementary Mathematics, along with a Bachelor of Science degree in General Mathematics.  Math is a huge passion of mine!  For the past ten years I have been tutoring mathematics in the evenings while chasing around three kiddos during the day.  Working with students one-on-one has widened my understanding of how students learn and allowed me to explore different approaches to developing an understanding of mathematical concepts.

 

When I’m not chasing around my own kids to various sports activities, I enjoy spending time outdoors, paddle boarding, hiking and shopping.

 

As a former competitive curler, I understand the drive and skill these young athletes need in addition to their focus on academics.  I’m here to assist them in reaching their potential in the classroom so they can focus on developing their skills on the ice.

With over 15 years of experience as an Alberta-certified teacher, I founded Apex Sports Academy to support student athletes in reaching their full potential; in the classroom, in sport, and in life.

 

I graduated university with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology and a Masters of Teaching.

As a former collegiate athlete (varsity rowing) and AAA soccer player, I understand first hand the discipline, resilience, and commitment required to succeed at a high level.

I’m also a mom of three athletes, most often found at the rink, my unofficial second home, cheering on three kids while juggling academics, training, and life. My love for sport is matched by my passion for education and the outdoors, whether that’s hiking, biking, or camping with my family.

At Apex, my mission is to build confident leaders by teaching core academic subjects alongside essential life skills such as; Grit & Goal-setting, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and sports nutrition. I believe that when athletes are equipped with the right skills and mindset, they’re prepared not just to compete but to thrive in all areas of their life.

Jessie is a Top 40 Under 40 for an academic scholarship through a partnership at the University of Saskatchewan and was recognized by her undergrad and graduate University as a business leader.She is currently  completing her M.Ed at the University of Saskatchewan.

 

Jessie’s work in Education, outdoor team building, curriculum and policy development and consulting leadership for multiple school boards and private organizations- spans over 2 decades in Saskatchewan and Alberta.

 

Jessie Fiddler-Kiss family comes from the Fiddler/Fidler’s of Batoche in the Treaty 6 territory the homeland of Metis Nation and Alberta/Treaty 7 territory. She started her hockey career at 11yr, playing with the Priddis Panthers on the ODR. Then moving to a hitting Peewee boys in Okotoks until midget. 

 

She then moved to Women’s AA in Calgary where at 14, she was recruited to go train and play for a first of its kind female high performance training program, and team at the Olympic oval, ed by coaching staff Kathy Berg, Wally, Kozak, and Tomas Pacina.  She trained there until she graduated. During years, she also played played girls AAA during spring and summer, representing Alberta and Canada for the AAA Selects and AAA Rockies. As well representing Alberta twice for the Alberta Winter Games- winning gold both times.

 

Her proudest moment was the consideration of coaches across Canada, due to her breakout statistics, skating strength, and  physicality selected her for ‘best defense’ for the Indigenous games. At graduation, she was recruited by three universities, two in Minnesota and one in Saskatchewan and decided to take a scholarship to rep Huskie Hockey. In her first year, she was awarded Rookie of the Year- played first line for the remainder of her time. She also played for MRU, joining the team to a CIS championship, gold medal.

 

Jessie loves taking her 3 children on adventures in the backcountry, learning from humble passionate people, she loves mountain biking and racing, backcountry canoe trips with her girls, caving, beadwork, and cliff jumping anytime and anywhere she can.
